We here at Valley View feel the patient and family should have kind, compassionate care during the last months on this earth. Some people ask, “What is hospice and palliative care?” That’s an easy answer, individuals who provide comfort for the Body, Mind and Soul, using a holistic approach. Hospice and Palliative Care are about QUALITY OF LIFE. That’s why we offer the different levels of hospice care. Those levels are:
- Routine hospice – to provide physical, spiritual and emotional support to patients with a life limiting illness.
- Respite Care – provides the caregiver with personal time to rest and recuperate.
- General Inpatient – to provide short term crisis management of exacerbated symptoms and/or pain.
- Continuous Care or Vigil Care – hospice staff sitting with the patient for up to 72 hours while the patient passes or over comes a crisis.
The hospices that offer services here at Valley View are:
- Asera Care Hospice
- Grane Hospice
- Home Nursing Hospice
- Southern Care Hospice
The Last Acts of Kindness offers a team of professionals such as Registered Nurses, Nurse Aides, Social Workers, Chaplains’, Volunteers and Bereavement coordinators that are trained to meet the needs of individuals during this stressful time. They collaborate with your physician to best meet your needs.
A lot of people want to know who pays for Hospice/Palliative Care, Medicare, Medicaid, managed care and most private insurance companies.
When is Hospice appropriate? It is appropriate whenever the patient/family and the physician decide that palliative care, or comfort care is in the best interest of the patient.
Following the passing of a loved one, Hospice does not stop. Bereavement counseling continues sometimes for up to 13 months or longer if necessary. It’s just a way to make sure that if someone needs to talk there is someone to listen.
